    Upon arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport in Sri Lanka, you will be welcomed and transferred to Colombo for your stay. 

  • Day 2 Exploring Sacred Temples in Chilaw

    Exploring Sacred Temples in Chilaw

    Travel to Chilaw to visit the Muneeshwaram Temple, a site linked to Lord Rama’s journey after his battle with King Ravana. According to legend, Rama felt relieved of the “Brahmaasthi Dosham” at this location and was guided to install and worship four Shiva lingams as a remedy.
    Next, visit the Manavari Temple, where Lord Rama installed the first lingam, known as Ramalinga Shivan. This is one of only two lingams in the world named after him. After exploring these sacred sites, return to Colombo for the night.  Read More

    Set out for Kandy, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the last capital of Sri Lanka’s ancient kings. This culturally rich city was ruled by Sri Wickramarajasinghe before British colonial rule. The highlight of your visit is the revered Temple of the Tooth Relic, an important pilgrimage site. You can also explore Kandy’s picturesque lake, bustling town and other notable attractions.

    Begin the day with a scenic drive to Nuwara Eliya, stopping along the way to visit a tea plantation and factory. Here, you’ll learn about the tea-making process, observe grading techniques and enjoy a fresh cup of world-famous Ceylon tea.
    Continue to the Sri Baktha Hanuman Temple in Ramboda, which marks the site where Hanuman searched for Sitadevi. The temple, built by the Chinmaya Mission of Sri Lanka, houses a striking 16-foot-tall statue of Lord Hanuman.
    In Nuwara Eliya, visit the Gayathri Peedam, believed to be the place where King Ravana’s son, Meghanath, gained supernatural powers through devotion to Lord Shiva. The temple’s Shiva Lingam was brought from the sacred Narmada River.
    Then, explore the Seetha Amman Temple in Seetha Eliya, located by a stream where Sitadevi is said to have bathed during her time in Ashoka Vatika. Footprints resembling those of Hanuman can be seen along the riverbanks, signifying his ability to change size.
    Conclude the day with sightseeing in Nuwara Eliya, known for its cool climate, stunning landscapes and historic charm. This town also boasts one of South Asia’s finest 18-hole golf courses and plays a vital role in Sri Lanka’s tea industry.

    Pilgrimage to Divurumpola & Kataragama

    Depart for Tissamaharama, stopping en route at Divurumpola, a site of great significance. This temple remains an important place for oaths and legal disputes today.
    Continue to the sacred Kataragama Temple, a revered pilgrimage site for Buddhists, Hindus and the indigenous Veddah people. Dedicated to the deity Skanda-Murugan, the temple is central to various legends and annual celebrations.
    After visiting Kataragama, proceed to Tissamaharama for an overnight stay.

    Travel to Galle and visit Rumassala, a place tied to the Ramayana legend. According to the story, when Rama and Lakshmana were wounded in battle, Hanuman was sent to fetch life-saving herbs from the Himalayas. Unable to identify the specific plants, he carried an entire hill, a part of which is believed to have fallen in this region.
    Explore Galle, a coastal city known for its well-preserved colonial heritage. The Galle Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, showcases impressive Portuguese and Dutch architectural influences. You can also visit the Dutch Museum, the historic Dutch Church and admire the city’s intricate lace and ebony carvings.
    After the city tour, continue to Kalutara for the night.
